How it Works: Your Path to Support

    Testimonials

“For not having many individuals in my social group or family who have gone to therapy, I felt like this was a small “leap of faith” for myself. I learned very quickly though, that therapy is for anyone and everyone; if you’re willing to put in the effort to listen to your therapist, their advice will soon turn to action if you believe in yourself. I now feel like I have the confidence I wish I had years ago and the power of positive self-reflection to help guide me through life in a way I never did prior. I would recommend counseling services to anyone, and the best time to start is now!”

“My therapist was so willing to work with me and my schedule from day 1. I knew therapy was something I was really interested in doing, but as a first time mom I was worried about finding the time. If I ever needed to cancel or reschedule my therapist was very understanding and always found time to fit me into her schedule. When I started to think about reducing the amount of sessions, my therapist helped transition me into an every other week schedule. These sessions have been life-changing and I am so glad I am in therapy.”

“Seeking therapy is something I should have done a very long time ago. Having someone that can help see all sides of my situation has really helped me to grow as a person and has drastically helped my mental health.”

“I see 2 counselors at Centre Counseling and Wellness. They both are affirming and caring . They make you feel secure and safe to share your heart. The center is well organized.”

“Center Counseling & Wellness has been excellent. I don’t plan on searching for a new therapist for the foreseeable future.”

“This was my first time in therapy, so I didn’t know what to expect.  The honest discussions and the support I receive, along with the moments of grief that we are able to share, have helped me more than I could ever express.”

      Frequently Asked Questions

      Is counseling right for me?

Counseling can be beneficial if you’re experiencing emotional well being difficulties, facing life challenges, or seeking personal growth. It provides a supportive environment to explore your feelings, thoughts, and behaviors with a trained professional.

What happens in a counseling session?

During a counseling session, you’ll typically talk about your concerns, emotions, and experiences with an adult therapist. They may ask questions to understand you better and help you gain insights into your situation. Counseling sessions are tailored to your needs and may involve exploring coping strategies, setting goals, and discussing ways to make positive changes in your life.

How long does counseling typically last?
The duration of counseling varies depending on your needs and goals. Some people find relief and achieve their objectives in a few sessions, while others may benefit from longer-term therapy. Counseling sessions can range from a few weeks to several months or more.
Will my counseling sessions be confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a crucial aspect of counseling. Counselors are legally and ethically bound to keep your sessions confidential, except in specific circumstances where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or when required by law.
      How does payment work?

Payment for counseling sessions typically involves either paying the counselor directly or through a health insurance plan if they accept insurance. Some counselors offer sliding scale fees based on income, and payment methods can include cash, credit/debit cards.

What types of insurance do you accept?

Each of our clinicians is independently contracted with different insurance companies. Please double check to make sure your particular clinician is in network with your insurance. Most of our licensed clinicians accept most commercial Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield (except Capital Blue Cross), Geisinger, and Optum/United Healthcare plans. Some of our clinicians accept medicare insurance and Centre County medical assistance insurance. We do not have any providers who accept Cigna insurance. We will verify your insurance information after you complete the prospective client form.

      What is your cancellation policy?

We require 24 hours notice for all appointment cancellations. Any no shows or cancellations within 24 hours of the appointment time will be billed at the full out of pocket rate. These fees cannot be covered by insurance and must be paid prior to scheduling your next session.

What types of therapy do you offer?

Our clinicians have a wide range of specialties and clinical orientations to serve clients of all ages. See the services page for more information.

      Do you offer telehealth services?

We offer in-person sessions in State College and Phoenixville, PA as well as telehealth sessions to clients across Pennsylvania. Due to licensure laws, we are unable to offer telehealth services to clients who are not located in Pennsylvania at the time of service.

How long does it typically take for my first appointment to be scheduled after I reach out?

We strive to connect prospective clients with a therapist who is a good fit as quickly as possible. While we have regular openings, the demand for mental health services in Centre County and Chester County often exceeds our available resources. If we don’t have immediate openings, you may be added to a waitlist. To ensure you aren’t waiting too long, we cap our waitlists and monitor them closely.
